“We visited quite a few venues, just as we were enjoying being engaged and getting to have a sneak peek at beautiful venues all around Devon! Upton Barn was the first one we visited and we fell in love, none of the others compared,” Jessica explains. “Not only did it have a beautiful contemporary barn feel but the ceremony areas were absolutely beautiful inside and out!”

The day began at 5am, when Jessica and her 7 bridesmaids and her mum began getting ready. There was a yellow weather warning for rain in the morning, but fortunately it held out and it remained dry all day, if not slightly overcast! “I got ready in the beautiful Paddock, and it was a dream. Our makeup and hair team couldn’t stop taking photos and just loved the location!” Jessica opted for loose beach waves, with half of it delicately pinned back. A handmade cathedral-style veil by Posie Treasures (featuring ocean pearls) completed the look perfectly. “In the evening I swapped my veil for a handmade white flower crown WHICH I WAS IN LOVE WITH. I wore it every day on our honeymoon and at 2am going to the airport!” Henry got ready at Goodiford Mill Lakes with all his groomsmen and his parents.

The bride and groom were treated to tequila shots courtesy of the bridal party ahead of the ceremony. Jessica’s younger brother, Harrison, walked her down the aisle. “It was so special as Henry and Harrison are so close!”

The couple chose to host an indoor ceremony in The Cider Barn, our traditional cob barn. They had two flower pillars at the front of the room created by Charlotte Hogg at Flowerswork and a beautiful garland adorning the table. Their welcome sign was a huge surfboard (the couple are both avid surfers), with their names on. Dusty blue, light pink and touches of gold made up their colour palette – which matched their beautiful blooms perfectly.

Prosecco, Pimms and garden games were the focus for their reception, while the newlyweds enjoyed their couple portraits in the grounds of Upton Barn. “It was actually really nice to just catch up and talk about our mornings and the fact we were MARRIED!”

As guests moved into The Stable Barn for the wedding breakfast, they were wowed by copper bars on the tables, golden candlesticks and LOTS of flowers! The gang at Pickle Shack were on hand to spoil Henry and Jessica’s friends and family with an absolute feast.

“The meal was absolutely spectacular, Pickle Shack honestly were incredible!”

The evening party was filled with great tunes from Charge, a fun photo booth and loaded fries for their late-night snack!  “The band played so many great songs, I don’t think there was one person sat down during their performance!”

Jessica’s Favourite Three Moments

Having Henry and my portraits. It was such a nice time to chat to him and find out about his morning and digest that we’re finally a married couple.”

“Seeing Henry smile and cry when I walked down the aisle.”

“Getting ready in the morning with my best friends and mother.”

We asked the happy couple to provide some words of advice for those who are soon to be getting hitched…

“Just make sure you take it all in, it’s the most incredible day but it does go fast so make sure you enjoy every second. There’s so much stigma about not drinking on your wedding too, Henry and I did and had a fantastic day, the hangover was so worth it. Just party and enjoy it all!”
